Architecture WG. Notes for the meeting on 27 March 2003 GMO 27-03-03 - Scope of the meeting: - to discuss how to address the request from the TDSG to look into: - The effect on the baseline architecture of "relaxing" assumptions - A cost model for the overall system - An evaluation of space requirements. - Baseline architecture: Giuseppe wil dsitributed by tomorrow evening the text (TDR chapter 5) describing the baseline. It will contain the two variants for the detector read-out (PCI based & betwork based). It was pointed out that while a common robin should be used in the text, the two options (a 4x1 and a 2x1) should both be used to evaluate cost & space (i.e. look also at a more pessimistic picture). - Assumtpions: it was agreed that everybody will circulate, by e-mail and by friday evening, one's idea on i) what are the important assumptions to address and 2) where in the system they might have an effect. giuseppe will then put together a summary which should form a first "problem definition" for this part of the exercise. Jos will be involved. - Costing. The size and cost of both the event filter and the online system will have to be taken into account and added to the existing cot model. To this end: Bob will organise a working coffee with Chris (to discuss the parametrisation of the EF organisation) and Saul a second working coffee (to discuss the organisation and sizing of the online network). Other important input is the document written by Fred concenring space in SDX. It was agreed that the costing should be addressed in a step-wise fashion: first update the existing model to include i) the two R/O variants, ii) the EF and iii) the online system, then it will be refined including the organisation of racks, infrastructure etc. As regards unit costs, it is agreed that new estimates should be done, possibly remaining on the pessimistic side. - Space. It should partially be a by-product of the costing exercise (at least as regards counting elements). However, we should address both space requirements "downstairs" and "upstairs" (e.g. space for farms). - Next meeting: friday april 4 at 16:00
